Artist Boots: Kimberly Alsheimer

Your story, your creativity, and your mood is one-of-a-kind…and we want to help share it.

We’ve collaborated with creatives from all over the country to take a classic Chooka City Solid boot and turn it into a piece of art that’s unique to them.
Our first featured artist is Kimberly Alsheimer.

Kimberly has years of design experience and a passion for beautiful things, ranging from floral arranging to graphic design. We were so grateful that she agreed to decorate one of our new City Solids!

Take a moment to get to know her and the inspiration behind her boot design.

Where are you from and what do you do?

I live in a small town called Oneonta in Upstate New York. I am the owner and creative force behind my business, Drift Design Co. where I design, paint and hand-letter paper goods (art prints and stationery), home decor (wooden signs and door mats) and apparel and accessories (tees, tanks and totes).

“… it's okay to stand out and be bold and different!”

What was your inspiration for this boot?

Life can be really difficult at times and we tend to feel like we aren't unique or making a difference in any way. The theme of this boot, “Make a Splash”, is a two-fold message. First, even when you’re walking through the “mud puddles” of life, you can turn it around into fun by making a splash! Also, it's a reminder that it's okay to stand out and be bold and different!

As far as the design goes, I love playful lettering and fun floral patterns/markings so I took that approach to "make a splash" of a statement with those features. I prefer an overall minimal look when it comes to color so the use of just white and gold lent itself nicely with the bolder pattern.

"… I always get inspired when I jog around my small town from the simple beauty of nature…"

Where do you typically get inspiration for your art?

I love hand-lettering Scripture verses and encouragement to lift other people up, so the Bible would be my first and foremost inspiration. Also, I always get inspired when I jog around my small town from the simple beauty of nature in the nearby parks, or on the street with the buildings that surround me. I'm a huge sucker for great typography and signage on buildings! Plus living in upstate NY, I have the pleasure of seeing all of the seasons through the gorgeous spring and summer flowers, the autumn trees, and the snowy hills all around me.
